Hello - I'm New Here!

[To fish or not to fish?]

I'm thinking about setting up a tropical aquarium but am finding it a mental challenge! There is much to understand and think about first. My plan was to have a community tank but I've discovered discus fish and am so taken with them I would like to add a few to a community tank at a later date.

I have a couple of useful books, a World of Water store not far away and access to the web but I see on the web there is a book by Bob Flower called 'The essential guide to keeping tropical fish' - I wonder does anyone have this and is it the 'bible' that Bob markets it to be? He claims to have info and advice I won't get anywhere else??

I'd really appreciate it if someone could advise me on this.

to the forum, the best bit of advice for someone setting up a new tank is to cycle your tank without fish, it works out much better for the fish in the long term you can read up on fishless cycling in the pinned topics in the newbie to the hobby area of the forum
