Hi Guys and Gals

I've been reading the forum as a guest for a few weeks now, you all seem to know your business, and there are some great posts, so i thought it time I started interacting...

My tank is 75 UK Gals, and is situated in the wall where the old kitchen window used to be ... it has been up and running for about 3 months and so far so good. I have a few mollies, tetras, 4 gouramis, 4 plecs, a couple of rainbows (i'll try and include a pic when i post this message)

I have a small problem tho, overall i am thrilled with the tank, but the water just seems to be 'bitty' all the time, lots of bits.

I do regular cleaning, water changes etc, and all water tests are good, but the water just isn't crystal clear, and when i see other peoples pictures on this forum, i can't help but wish my water was as clear.

Any suggestions would be nice

Thanks

Rob

WOW! Very Nice!

I would do the dishes every night if I had a tank above the sink!

LOL! Thanks for a quick reply. I forgot to mention, that the dishwasher is now redundant!!

Thats a very interesting place to have a tank... Super ace tho! love it, but sorry i cant answere your question :(

Kev

the next to the sink description interests me. is there any way that chemicals or gasses from cleaning or other chemicals could be working its way into the tank? it wouldnt have to do with the cloudiness but it could cause a problem.

these are some questions you need to answer that could help determine where the problem lies.

1) are you using tap water?
2) is your filter rated for that large of a tank?
3)Do you clean and sterlilize everything thoroughly before you add it to the tank?
4) Are you cleaning your sand properly?

By the way your tank is gorgeous

Severum Thanks

The tank is completely sealed from the kitchen, access is from the office on the other side of the wall.
I clean, sterilize and soak everything first
Sand was washed and washed
and as far as i know the filter is big enough for the job. Its an 'Aqua pro 3' external filter. If you think i need something different please suggest something ....

thanks for the compliment ... always helps

You have some bog wood there... mite be tannins off that, maybe not :)

Scot, the bogwood was soaked for ages, which i kept changing until the water it was soaking in was clear. Although the water does have slight yellow tint which i am sure is tannins, but this is bits. I'll try and take an up close pic now

maybe something is stirring up your sand? i also think it could be due to overfeeding. overfeeding seems more logical. you can tell us what youre feeding them right now. try feeding just a little less for a while. not big enough to hurt the fish but lesser enough so that you would notice if there were less "bits"

Severum, ok that makes sense. I am feeding them flakes at the mo. A couple of plec tabs, and some blood worms once a week as a treat. I'll cut down on the flakes. Is there any other food which isn't so 'bity'

A couple more pix, and on of my 2nd lot of Fry
