new here and am looking for some info help advise and possibly more on this great forum. i also have a little problem that i would lie to share. i will be going on holiday for 10 days and i got 2 lovely gold fishies. (about 3 inches) they are about 7/8 years old and never been kept in a tank and usually friends look after them when away. this time there no one around. i am looking to buy a Tetra AquaArt 30 Litre Coldwater Fish Tank and leave a 7 day holiday pyramid food and need your advise on this. is 30 litres enough as i keep them in less water now i think. but i do change the water every day. also does this tank come with all the filter and etc already or do I need to but extras???

thanks and look forward to your replies.

No, that's not a good idea.
The food would probably amount to too much ammonia for a brand new filter to cope with.
What size tank are they in now? Your best bet is just to try and find someone who can care for them where they are now.

they are now kept in large plastic rectangular container. not a tank

what can i do ????????????????????

Nutramatic 2x economic feeder or something like that might work if you chose the smallest amount of food to drop out.

It's an automatic feeder that runs on batteries. When you get back, do a water change asap and then test water a little after that.

If you really have no option of any help, that's all I can suggest.

Anachris plants attached inside the aquarium would work as well. Anachris is an oxygenator and remover of fish waste. (to an extent).

Goldfish have been known to survive for up to a month without feeding (although inadvisable). The main issue is water quality, but if you do a good water change before you leave and test and the levels of nitrates are near 0 as possible (nitrites 0, ammonia 0) - then it should be alright when you get back.

Look up on the stickies about cycling a fish tank, etc. The tank should come with everything you need to get going they normally do (The one you refer to comes with light installed, and a filter) - You'll need gravel for the tank and some plastic plants. Also, it sounds as if you don't run a filter at the moment, so you're going to have to cycle the new one. If I were you I'd get the new tank setup ASAP, and come here for advise setting this up long before you leave (at least 3 weeks before anyway!).

Also, do you use water conditioner? You should look into this as well if you don't, as tap water contains some nasties that you don't want to put in with your fish!

welcome to the forum pal

I personally would leave them with no food they;ll be fine
