Hello!
My name is Sydney (called squidney by my friends, which I felt was a fitting username for this site). I recently got my own apartment. Since I am not allowed to have furry friends, I got into the hobby of fish keeping.
I will admit when I got my first tank, a 20 gallon, I was very naive and uneducated. I bought the tank, ran it for one day with some treatments from petco, then purchased a brittle nose pleco, a handful of neon tetras, ghost shrimp, a golden alge eater, and a rainbow shark. As you can imagine many died, and i also got a case of some type of fungus. In my frustration I turned to the internet, where I learned what cycling a tank was and all the good stuff. So I started over, this time with a 40 gallon (my sister now has the 20 gallon, and I have passed on my newly found knowledge to her). It cycled up in about 6 weeks.
My current fishies are:
1 rainbow shark (4inches)
1 Golden algae eater (4 inches)
6 neon tetras
10 ghost chrimp
5 cory catfish.
My tank is moderately planted with fake plants and several hidey places. There was aggression until I lost my serpae tetras, who the shark did not like. Now all is peaceful.
Soon I am planning to switch to a 60 or 75 gallon, and plant it, for a more natural theme. I have a lot to learn before I switch to a planted tank, but I will do so before my fish get too large to be comfortable in the 40 gallon.
So, that's my fishy family and fishy dwelling :3 looking forward to becoming part of this community.
