Good Evening Everyone,

I was wandering if anyone could help me. I have decided to convert an old Grandfather clock that I have into a tropical fish tank. I want something bright, colourful and vibrant to go inside and it seems you can definitely get that with tropical fish.

I have tried looking online and I can't seem to come across anyone that specifically makes tanks to size order. So here are my questions, and I would be really very grateful if anyone could help me.

1) I need a tank that is 14 inches wide, 8 inches deep, and 40 inches tall. Does anyone know where I might be able to get this? As well as how much it might cost?

2) Are there any problems with having a tropical tank that is skinny but really tall?

I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,

Mrs H.

Apparently you can't get tanks in those sizes as it is impossible to seal it at the bottom, as you can't reach down because of how skinny it is.

Thanks

That has to be somewhere that can build this for you, Reaching too the bottom is easily solved. There will be people who can make it.

But what would be the point?

I know people go on about 'inch per gallon' but it's really surface area that dictates how many fish you can stock; you'd be able to have about two platies in there

Hiya

My main reason for doing it is to create something ornamental. I've not reached the point of deciding what to put in it. I've had a look in some fish stores and they have lots of really small fish - I was hoping to get about 10 in - but if this isn't feasible, thank you for pointing it out!

Thanks,

Mrs H.

:hi:

You could create a vivarium with tropical frogs of some sort, frogs love the tall tanks for climbing and whatnot, might be better than fish! I miss my vivariums greatly!

Good luck with your tank!! take pics if you end up going for it!

try here

there is an email address, send them a message with dimensions and see what they say

A palludarium with tropical frogs or something similar would look much better than a fish tank, IMO

frog idea sounds great, they are so colourfull and so many levels could be built for them to climb to. i would feel a bit sorry for fish who could only swim a few inches back and forth

I agree - - that is not suitable for fish who benefit from horiztontal swimming. Also, gas exchange is reduced in skinny tanks - if your dimensions were flipped and it was long (width) and (short) height you could have a great little fish tank.

To put fish in that is a bit cruel in my honest opinion.

frogs are a better idea - - but do not look for aquatic frogs who definitely benefit from floor space.

frogforum.net is a good idea to find out about some suitable species, then you can come on here and wow us with the set up :good: we LOVE pictures.

also considering you are building the tank into an old clock - the clock is not designed to hold the weight of a container of water.
A land set up for frogs would be much lighter!
