Hello All...

Hey my name is lil, 18 from hull. Im a first time fish keeper and heres my tank....

Its 60 litres and i have 4 mollies and 2 golden rams (as of today). They seem to be a bit shy at the minute, but im guessing there just getting settled in?
So i am thinking about what else i can put in...want something abit different!?

rather than bombard you with lots of questions and put you right off.. have a read thru lots of threads here http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/58-beginner-questions/

especially "cycling" ,testing ( and understanding the results)
you dont say how long the tank has been setup? ( if its just today.. then you might wanna get on with reading or you could have isues on your hands a little further down the line ( you`ll read all about the bad things that can happen in new setups where the filters havent been cycled in the threads ive pointed you towards)

but like Mark says, have a read then ask away, lots of excellent free advice here to help you get the most out of your new found hobby and everyone is always more than happy to help.. theres no such thing as a silly question so dont be put off asking even if it seems minor

ps the large plant that you have in there isnt an aquatic plant, youd be better off sticking it in a pot on the window sill or it will rot and muck your water up

My tank has been set up for 6 weeks, the mollies went in last saturday and the rams today.
Have been testing the water and everything is fine but will definatley read up on everything.
Ahhh ok thanx will make sure i take it out tomorrow.
How often do you suggest doing water changes? can it effect the fish doing to many?

Most of the time, once a week is sufficent.

And are the rams a pair? If they are both males... You could run into some problems down the road. They are quite easy to sex.

Yes and male and female, how do you tell the diffrence?

On the males, the front two rays are longer than the others. And on females, they aren't.

i do my water changes weekly. i dont work fridays so i always try to make a point of doing my water changes then and i always do from 20 to 40 percent.

You MIGHT be able to have a bristlenose in a tank that size... But they are quite messy fish. You could add a shoal of cardinal tetras. Make sure that the tempature IS 82*F!! Rams NEED a tempature of 82*F.

i really wouldnt add anything else for the time being, not until youve tested the water ( get an API master test kit from your LFS) if everything is once that has been done then you can think about stocking.( your LFS may offer a testing service for a coupla quid, be sure to write down the results)
its not a huge tank, but you do have lots of options,so plenty to look forward too

Well was going to leave it 2 weeks anyway before i get any more
Was thinking about tetras because i love the colours but want something really interesting and different
will my mollies be allrite tho if i turn it up to 82?
I know, i am excited cant wait to get some more!

your mollies will be fine they are one of the toughest out there . Please be careful getting a plec as they can grow to quite a size , over a foot or more . You might be better off with some sucking loaches . As for a small shoal of something different have you considered the upside down-like hatchet fish . A few of both marbled and silver will look ace .
