Hello All

Hi all, im new to the forum.

Im 20 years old, from staffordshire.

Ive joined as im after some advice on a stocking list...

I have kept tropical fish in a 36"x15"x15" 120 Litre tank for about ten years on and off.

My current stock list is -

1 x 8" Pleco
1 x Red Tail Black Shark
1 x Albino Rainbow Shark
8 x Odessa Barbs

I would like to add either cory cats or yo-yo loach. And a gouramis or 2, or maybe instead of the gouramis a pair of keyhole cichlids.

What would work best?

I have had the 2 sharks together for about 12 months with no issues, but appreciate they may have to be split up in the future, in which case i would keep the RTB.

For reference to help you decide on stocking, what type of plec is it? and what filter are you running?

you may find the redtail and the rainbow will fight alot later on

um if your going for gouramis nice big ones would be opalines x2
and i dont see any reason why 6 small corys shouldnt be added

The pleco is a common plec. Im running a Fluval Plus 400 Internal Filter and try to do 25% water changes 3 times per week.

If and when the sharks start to fight i wil remove the rainbow, but as i said above, so far there has been no trouble and they keep apart.

If i added 6 x Cory Cats and 2 x Opaline Gouramis would i be close to overstocking?

Also wouldnt 2 male gouramis fight?

TBH m8 your already overstocked with the common plec in there.... and that filter wont cope with the amount of waste he will produce when he's that little bit bigger.]

Advice if you want to add more fish would be to rehome the plec and then you could have the cory's and the gourami's without any problems at all

Ive been considering rehoming the pleco for a while. Can you reccomend a pleco that doesnt grow as big as the commons? Maybe a para plec? or Golden Nugget?

If i did, then would yoyo loach be an option? Either insted of or aswell as the cory cats?

Would the sharks/barbs hassle the yoyo loach?

Could i guarantee im getting one male and one female? Would a single gouramis not be a better choice? Or is one more likely to get bullied?

Anyone any ideas about the YoYos?

i dont think it would get bullied
get rid of the plec and the rainbow shark and you could get 3-4 yoyos but if you do this i wouldnt get the gouramis or the cories

A para and a GN IMO would be to big for a 125ltr tank, both can get to 10 inch and possible more average is about 9 for both, you could have a pair of clowns, bristlenose, L15(candy stripe) somethink that stays around 4-6 inch is your best bet.

Sorry not a clue with the loaches.

Okay thanks to all...

So provisionally i will have...

1 x Red Tail Black Shark
10 x Odessa Barbs
4 x YoYo Loach

Would i be able to add much else to this? How will this work as a community?

The odessas tend to put on a pretty good 'show', and make for a nice active tank.

The RTB just prowels around, lol.

Could i have a small pleco in with the above list or not?

yoyos get to about 4 inches so if you do get 4 of em make sure the plec isnt larger than 6 inches, look on the pleco forum, there is a pinned thread called 30 plecos under 8 inches, look aroung for suitable ones

i would go with 3 yoyos if your guna get a plec aswel

odessa barbs can reach 10 cms so ten of these will be too much, try 6
barbs are very active im sure you are aware and need alot of space

how big are the ones you have?

I have 2 keyholes but recently they have both become stressed (they change colour) if you did get keyholes i'd only recommend 1. They are truly beautiful fish and are always at the front of the tank begging me for food. Candy stripe plecos are beautiful but a bit pricey, about £35.
