hello mermen and merladies.. i bought aquarium for fish loving wife but i appear to be doing all the looking after and trouble shooting, and know not of.. so just lately big guppy appears to be pregnant and another white fish was eaten while we slept... but let's get to that later.. what i really want to know is what fish is this..? except i don't know if i can upload the photo to show you... i'm currently guessing some kind of chicilid or a scat.. but he has been causing trouble since day one, very aggressive. i've put him in the sin bin, (which was supposed to be the birthing pool) because he's continually fighting with the probably pregnant guppy) and fish are practising magic but not completing the spell) thinking we need a second tank already or something.

That's a male dwarf gourami.

They can be quite aggressive to other males, even of different species. How big is your tank, and is it planted?

hi, thanks for the reply.. yeah he is... i think we need to get another tank because i swapped the (i think) pregnant guppy and he over just now after swapping some of the features around as i read suggested but within 5 minutes he was charging the other fellas again.. we've had a lot of mystery deaths and he would be the obvious choice. We were told (and i'm sure a lot of people say this) in the shop, yeah they're ok... but it's not. I've put him back in but it's not really fair on him and he may become ill if he's a stress head too right? I think its a 20 gallon but quite a few plants yes, he lurks around them a lot when the little fellas are sleeping though.

A rule of thumb in the fish keeping hobby is to never trust pet stores unless its a reputable and PRIVATELY owned store. Most chain pet stores have people working in the fish section who don't know the first thing about fish and are just trying to sell you stuff.

hello, indeed, i came to the conclusion it's if they don't know then say whatever is going to make them spend more money..

the photo in my profile is the tank, but has a lot more plants in it now. If the guppy does not give birth in the separation part then all the other fish will eat the babies i read before..!?

i think the two orange fish are mollies, stripey fast fish maybe barbs, the DG doesn't seem to bother the barbs but hates the molly fish... two white mollys were killed.. lots of neon tetras killed but i think maybe we just had to many so that could have been all of them maybe!?!?
