Good evening everyone,

I have had a small tank set up for years and have bit the bullet and upgraded to the biggest one I could house. Have not got a 60 litre tank but had a few questions.

I am running my old filter along with my new one, was advised about a week for this? Does this sound about right? The water has gone slightly orange but am assuming that this is the tannins from the bogwood?

Also I only have 4 plattys, 2 guppies, 3 corys and some shrimp at moment but want to add some more. Any ideas as to stocking? Also trying my hand at real plants.................

Scary but exciting times!!!!

With that size tank i would definitely choose between either the guppy's or platys because having both is just to much, especially if you want to get more of them.  Also if you are going to have corys you need a group of at least 6.  The only corys i would keep in that size tank would be pygmy or hastatus or dwarf corys.  But that's just my opinion.

:hi: to the forum.

What species of cory do you have? There are many variations.

What size tank have you upgraded from?

TBH. I would take all of the filter media out of the smaller, mature filter and stuff as much as possible into the new filter, topping up any empty spaces with new filter media.

Depending on the type of cory, I would get 3-4 more (they're a schooling fish and appreciate being in numbers of 6+) and rehome the platies/guppies (whichever you choose) You would be fully stocked then IMO.

I'd love to see a picture!
If the file is too big, you can upload it to a photohosting site like photobucket :)

Thanks guys, Albino corys, a bamboss shrimp, 2  plattys and 2 guppys in a 60 litre tank

Blondielovesfish has answered pretty much what you need to know regarding your filter. Hope you managed to get all your filter media from old tank filter to the new one. Am assuming you are not still running your old tank.

A little confused regarding to your tank stocking, in your first post you say you have 4 platys, 2 guppies, 3 cories and some shrimp.

And in you last post you did you now say you have Albino cories, bamboo shrimps, 2  platys and 2 guppies.

Have you recently lost 2 platys?

Also would follow previous advice regarding stocking numbers to have them in groups of 6+, and re-home either the guppies or plays, best to have one larger school of single species rather than 2 small schools of 2 species in a 60 litre tank as they will be happier in larger numbers.

As BLF says, take all your media out of your old filter, put it in the new one with it's new media and stop running the old one altogether. It's the media that does the work not the filter.
