I am trying to find out what this fish is. It is translucent. It has become very aggressive after many years of being in the same 50 gallon tank with the same fish. The only change is I have started giving them shrimp pellets. This fish is constantly circling the tank chasing other fish in the tank to either ends of the tank. There was 4 Buenos Aires Tetras, a Bala Shark, an Angle fish and a Hyostomus Plecostomus and this fish charged and hit a tetra until it died. I didn't realize it had done it so that much I just thought the fish had sought shelter in the plants at the back top of the tank until it was pushed out by the other fish. So if anyone can help me figure out what this fish is I would appreciate it. I am stopping the shrimp pellets. TIA

Tricky one as its an albino form. Its not a characin, I don't see barbels although pic is a little blurry, so its probably not a barb. It looks a bit like a giant danio. Does it tend to swim near the top of your tank?

A better picture would be helpful, but if I had to guess, I would say the albino variant of a giant danio.

Are these any better?

One more?

Still thinking giant danio, are there any markings at all on the fish (ie faint horizontal stripes)? and does it mostly swim at the top of the tank?

No marking on it just the red eye and is translucent in color and shimmery. Does not stay at the top of the tank usually mid to bottom and is always on the move. Also does anyone know what this little guy is called?

It does have the white lines like the danios but the belly is very white and shimmery and that red eye and that turned up snout. It very well could be I just wonder which type. I see the sunburst orange glow fish maybe over grown and lost its glow, lol. I have had this fish for three years myself and my brother-in-law had it for 4 years also.

The tetra on the bottom is a black skirt tetra.

I would also be inclined to say the albino fish is a danio, not sure on species but definitely looks like a danio.

Thank you so much I appreciate your help. How fast do these little buggers grow usually?

Well the red eye has me stumped. I have looked at albino giant danios but they have no red eye? Then I looked at red eyed tetras yes but then there is the white lines like the danios but then the snout like the tetras. Oh boy! This picture looks just like it I think? It is so small the eyes look red?? and it is an Albino Giant Danio. I blew it up and yep this is it, for sure.

Ok here I go again asking for help. Just got a tank from a friend with some calcium build up, not bad but still want it gone.

Re: Albinos - True albinos have red eyes. Albinism, by definition, is the lack of pigment. If the eyes are not red it is not a true albino.

Re: calcium - If the build up is not that bad, it's probably best to give it a good soak and scrape it off with a straight edge razor knife. There are some "fish safe" products that will help make the job easier, if it can't be scraped/scrubbed off.

I would use white vinegar to get rid of it, its harmless to fish as long as you give it a good rinse afterwards.

I ended up using a lot of elbow grease but thank you I will know what to use next time. I had to hurry and get it set up as I am the proud grandma of new baby Dalmatian Molly fry. I ended up with 9 I accidentally killed one trying to catch it with the net, Ooops..  :(  How do you all feel about undergravel visit and filtration system? I had a guy come over and he thought I was crazy for not having an undergravel filtration system. I have a Fluval HOB filtration system. My Albino Giant Danio does have red eyes that was the one thing I was looking for in all the other fish for id'ing it.
