hi ive just been given 4 helleri cichlids all about 1" to 2" wanted to know what your views are on them they will be housed with 2 blue acara's 2 rainbow cichlids and 2 indian leafish and 2 ancistrus ,i dont want a tank with boisterous fish in as all the fish i mentioned are really placid and eat from my hand any views would be appreciated

many thanks
paul

Wow they are nice not seen them before :) Common name seems to be Gold Aureum and I think Minxy had some Aureum a while back so she might be a good person to get advice from. But I believe they are similar to firemouths and ellioti as well should be fine, what size tank is it? Thats going to be the main factor once things grow up thats 8 mid sized cichlids in there so would be looking for maybe a 75g + tank long term for them all.

its a 450 ltr tank think thats around 100g so hopefully thats big enough il be running a fluval fx 5 and possibly a tetratec 1200 filter with plenty of plants and rock formations to keep them happy ,any ideas would be great

thanks

Ah your spot on then :) Sounds fantastic :D

They are similar (and I believe a relative) of the thorichthys species, meeki, ellioti and aureus, and should therefore be treated along the same lines as those, should be reasonably placid (aggressive when spawning) and should be fine with the fish you already have in the size tank you have.

cheers minx il read up on them and hopefully theyll be fin with my others fingers crossed ,they look lovely .they look a lot like firemouths at the moment but cant wait to see them fully grown .will post pics when i get round to it
