Some of you may remember me picking up a BEAUTIFUL discus which i called named Conner. Shortly before Conner i got another that was a cross between a brown and a pigeon blood..

WELL, i have just arrived home from work to find Conner (and the now named) Claire have spawned in my discus tank!!

I dont expect them to survive as this is their first spawning.... but can you imagine the look of delight on my face when i just looked in the tank!!

These are pics of the 2 discus it would appear that have spawned. I understand though that they could just be 2 females. The best thing is, they aint bother by the other discus that are in there !!

This is Conner

Will take pics of the eggs and keep you all updated.

Looks like the other discus are going down to the cube this weekend after all hehehehe

OOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY DAYS !

They are some nice looking fish, almost makes me want to buy another tank and set it up for discus. Congrats on the spawn

They are something I have thought about keeping every so often but I always seem to fill my tanks with all sorts of other things which catch my eye while I am looking for decent discus

Thanks guys.

Connor is Red Pigeon Blood and Claire is a cross between a RPB and a Brown. Be interesting what the kids turn out like if they make it that far. Like i said, im not holding out much hope that any of this spawn make it. They aint even fanning the eggs, but Connor is picking at them and cleaning them, which is a good sign.

From what im led to believe, it takes a few spawns for them to get it right, but at least i have a spawning pair. Just need to get them up to proven pair status now :)

Nice one :)

I don't think tbo that you will get any fry in a community tank, I have eight discus in my tank and get around two spawnings a week, the eggs last for around 36 hours, then there are some fungussed ones, then the parents eat them happens every time. T get them to raise thre fry, I think you are going to have to separate them and try them on their own
How big are they? look around 4"?

yeah, i dont hold out much hope for them and im really realistic about that. im under no illusions. Conner is around 4" and Claire is about 6". If they eat this lot, it will give me a chance to remove the other discus and platys that are in there and leave them on their own. When the fish house is built, they will have their own bare bottom tank. but whils they are in there, they can get plenty of practice in. And should any fry come from them, i can free a tank up in about 30 mins to move the fry to when they are big enough :)

Sp00ky, thats so cool. The parents look great. Hope you do aventually get them to breed and raise the fry. Baby Discus are so cute.

Leave a lamp on either in the room or maybe just one tank light, or they will definitely eat the eggs overnight.

not heard of that one before. whys that then? or do you mean they will leave the eggs unattended and the others will nab the eggs?

To let them see other fish around them; to protect the eggs and not be so spooked. At a guess.

I think you might be best making the water a little harder depending on the stats to see if they stop spawning because now they are spawning, they willput all their efforts into that and won't grow very much, might be worth getting them a bit bigger first.
