will soon be the happy owner of a new 95g tank. the aquarium calculator on here says i need 298.8w of heating what would be better 1 300w heater or 2 200w 1 placed at each end of the tank

Its really up to you what you want to use but imo go with 2 maybe a 300 & a 200 just to be on the safe side. If one was to fail then the other will kick in and do the job, unless it sticks on(which is unlikely) but def 2 is better than 1 IMO

thats what i thought i also figured 1 at each end would give a more even spread of heat

One at each end gives you a safety net. If a heater fails, you will still have something to heat the water until it can be replaced. It will also heat the water more evenly but in a 90 that should not be a problem since it is only 4 ft long. My 6 ft 120 I used a 150 and a 200 with one at each end. the filter actually moves water around enough that I rarely see them both on. whichever one comes on first seems to do the trick. Since I change settings somewhat with the season, they are never set at quite the same amount so one ends up doing all the work.

i was thinking a 200w at each end. am looking at tetratec at the moment as thats what i have at the moment and has been good. anybody know anything better in the same kind of price bracket?

i use "elite" in all my tanks, never had any problems with them, in Acorn pets store all the heaters are 1 price £15, and i would recommend 2 x300W as someone says incase 1 fails, and there wont be any cold spots either ;)
