I just bought Fred a new 2.5 gallon tank.( My last tank started leaking.) I want to know how many gallons does a tank have to be to put a heater in it ? Also, what is the best kind of heater to put in small tanks? Thanks!

I dont know about size, but you can put a heater in that 2.5 gallon one. I have a 2.5 and a 25w heater i got from walmart for about $7.00 its probably not "top of the line" but it works for my lil crowntail

Thanks! When I was looking at the heaters at the local chain box pet store, I saw 50w and 100w. Nobody around to ask a question to and even if I could of found somebody I doubt they would have know anything. I hate going into these stores but since I had a leak to deal with it was an emergency. I guess I should look for a 25w heater.

I have to get on my soap box again. I always look at the bettas. Who and the H@LL can up with putting bettas in a tiny cup, half full in something that looks like toilet water. I feel so bad for them. I wish they would on have a few on hand and treat them better then a shelf full of bettas being abused.

Ugh, I know. I can barely bring myself to look at them without wanting to cry and/or just scoop them all up and take them home with me!

I have a 7.5w heater for my 2.5 gallon tank, and it works beautifully.

Your betta will be so happy when you put a heater in, mine made me a bubble nest within hours!

Hey I'm selling some used thermostated 25w heaters, Visitherm, for £10 each delivered. They are about £20 in the shops new.

Thanks Mel. When I took the leaking tank back to where I got I used the refund to get a small heater. I wish I had see your post first, but thank anyway.
