Hi,

Just found a small 15 litre tank i bought ages ago, and it came with a 100W heater.

Is it too big? Will it overheat, if so what size would u reccomend?

you could do with a 25w or 50 i think, but im really not sure if theres a bad effect to using a larger heater than needed so i would also be interested in finding out.... wish i lived in your house where you find tanks!

just found out i saved myself 17 quid by using the 100 watt one for my bigger tank :D

ha it was a good feeling :D

You can put a 1000w heater in a jam jar if you want to.... the only danger is that it sticks ON and overheats the water, a problem that I have only HEARD of ONCE in over 40 years !

Buy a decent brand and sleep easy ! lol

Was about to say the same thing but rooster said it best. Having the thermostat stick is what always gets mentioned as the danger but you virtually never hear of it actually happening. By contrast, having a more powerful heater can help out if you ever have to run a temporary tank in a garage or shed.
