The thermometer in my tank reads 59 F the heater I have comes on briefly for a few seconds then goes of
and the temp on the thermometer isnt rising, I tried a spare heater and that is doing the same but the spare heater is only a small heater I use for my spare tank.

Is my heater broken, is the heater supposed to stay on until the temp gets to 69 F ect or is it meant to go on and off?

Please help :/

Have you put the heater settings at 75F ?

Have you tried using a different thermometer?

It will depend on the amount of water movement arount the heater.

If it is quite still then there is a chance that the heater is warming up only the water immediately surrounding it causing the thermostat to click off. This is more likely to happen if the heater is verticle rather than horizontal or at an angle.

If both heaters are doing the same thing then there is a good chance that this is the case and you need to increase the water flow around the heater by putting it nearer to the filter outflow.

Either that or your themometer knackered.
