Just a note to pass on an experiance i've had with my heater.
I set up a new tank that I was given with no filter, heater, lights.
I bought an adjustable elite heater with temp setting on the front and adjustable by twisting the top along with a digital thermometer.
Setting the heater to 25c I left it to settle with the thermometer the other end of the tank. The next day temp reading was 30c
what was wrong, the heater or the thermometer?
so I have added a good old fasioned thermometer which proved that the heater is not correct.
Just wanted to warn any other newbies to make sure as I have noticed that if buying a complete set up a thermometer is not always included.

Ya the thermostat on my heater is a couple degrees off aswell its always good to have a thermometer in the tank to check how your heater is opperating. Good thing you caught it before too long and no fish were harmed because im assuming there weren't any in there.
