I recently bought a second hand Tropiquarium 68 (72 litres) tank. It came with a Fluval Tronic 200w heater which was wired in to the hood. This seems a bit big as my new Fluval Roma 125 litre tank only came with a Tronic 150w. Brand new the tank would have had a Tronic 100w. Is the 200w too big ?, Thanks in advance for any advice, Alan

The only real risk with a large heater is if it ever malfunctions. It could cook the tank. If that happens, it's probably not really going to over heat your fish but more likely the high water temps result in low oxygen content and the fish die from lack of oxygen. Because it is large, it most likely won't be on very often as it will only take a short while for it to raise the water temp a few degrees and keep the temp stable.

A heater that is much larger than is needed will not be a problem. It will just spend more time turned off and less time turned on.
