It would appear that my heater is not heating my tank up. I have had it on and set to 76 for a week and temperature stays at around 64-66. The heater reads that it is on. Is there a certain heater I should get for my tank? As far as size goes or something. I have a 55 gallon tank. Later, QD.

A 200 watt heater should work for a 55gal tank, however it's alway a good idea to check the manufacturer's suggestions on the package.

my heater does the same thing and i only have a 44 gallon i found that i had to crank the heater up to 84 or 82 to get it to heat up to 76 degreesssss??????????

The calibrations on heaters are not necessarily accurate. Mine heats to 77 when it is set to 70. Experiment for a few days until you get the temp. that you want. As long as the heater holds it at a stable temp. that should be OK.

Ian.

Yes, the temp readings on the heater don't take into acount things like outside room temp or exactly how much water they're in, they're only a rough guide. You just have to keep fine tuning it until it's constantly at the temp you want.
