just noticed by accident that my my heater was heating yesterday and the water was already like 26.5 degrees. so i wind the knob back on the heater right down but it kept on heating. so i unplugged it and turned it back on when i went to bed. through the night it was switching on and off fine. its a long weekend so i cant buy a heater. do you guys keep spare heaters at home?

Heater will keep switching on when the temp starts to go down.
If you think the heater faulty I would buy a new one.

If the heater broke you usually wrap the tank in a blanket.

When you buy the new heater let the temp go up naturally no warm water changes.

my heater broke and my new one had a fault, i didnt use it incase it fried my fish. i only had a very small heater for my hospital tank that i put in and i whacked heating up in the house too and just hoped the fish be ok til monday.luckily i lost only one platty.

yup learn a lesson from this, always keep a spare small heater and filter somewhere in the house, doesn't need to be big enough to manage the whole tank (although of course that's preferable) but it means you have at least got something if yours breaks.

for now, keep the room the tank is in as warm as possible and wrap the tank up in a big blanket for a couple of days to hold the heat in.
