Health Benefits Of Keeping Fish

lol. I dont know if its de-stressing in anyway.
I love watching my fish and can literally spend hours sat there watching them.

My Mrs doesnt think its de-stressing, not when im spilling water on the carpets and getting fish poo on the sofa etc....and also fretting when I go away for more than a day etc.

I think its certainly nice and relaxing in a physical way....

Thats why my tank in the kitchen funny about carpets lol.

hmm...I don't really think its that stress relieving. If I stare at my fish tank long enough I remember something I have to buy for it or want to get. Notice some thing that I didn't notice before (plant not in the right place, fish acting funny) Watching my fish tank can actually be more stressful because I know the needs of the fish. Watching other peoples who don't know what there doing are even more stressful because I stare at the tank, feeling like bonking them on the head for what's wrong. (especially when there in my ear telling me about what the have and how there right) Yeah not so much... but the tanks at the zoos and large aquarium places are actually very reliving.

So I agree but don't agree

Give it a few more weeks and you will be pulling your hair out when things go wrong.l lol

I suppose it can be relaxing seeing fish tanks in doctors and dentist surgeries, but when you have a fish tank in your house its different as you are always on the alert checking the fish over to make sure there no desease.

NB - it really does stress my GF out. We are sat watching a moooovie (having soms QT ) ;) and all of a sudden I jump up and say pause it !!!!! Shes thinking im having a stroke or something....but no....ive seen something stuck to my filter and thought it was a fish...lol :hyper:

Agreed, I could spend hours watching mine, and when things are fine it's very relaxing......but when you get diseases and stuff I can tell you it's nothing but extra stress.....I've got a problem I've been trying to sort for weeks on end now and it's just so stressful!

I also do the thing of sitting thinking what else I could buy, mainly more plants and bogwood.....even fish!

Until I got through all of the newbie mistakes I would say my blood pressure was very high. But now that my tank is stable I do enjoy calmly sitting in front of my tank.

I know it helps my stress level because I can stare at the fish and feel peaceful even when my children are going bonkers running through the house.

Also I enjoy the researching and the forums and the trips to the LFS.

I thoroughly enjoying wasting hours on here learning.....and of course oggling fish in all the LFS round here too......what a life! :good:

after you know what your doing its very relaxing. But when i was stupid enough to buy from pets at home and what not it was very stressful with all the illness'!

Funny how whenever you see these claims it only states watching the fish is relaxing/theraputic :grr: , once your into the hobby and start getting MTS it is definetely more stressful

A Purdue News August 1999 Report states that, "Nursing Professor Nancy Edwards" tracked 60 individuals who resided in specialized units in three Indiana nursing homes. She found that patients who were exposed to the fish tanks appeared to be more relaxed and alert, and they ate up to 21 percent more food than they had before the introduction of the fish tanks.

The average increase in food consumption was 17.2 percent."

Ahh.... Now I have a good excuse for putting on the extra pounds. I can just blame it on the fish  :good: That should save me some stress!

I think there are some people on this forum who would keep fish if it was the least healthy thing to do in the world.
