I bought 10 head and tail light tetras last Sunday 22/5/11 as well as other fish for my new tank. On Saturday 28/5/11 four were found dead. Another fish died on Sunday 29/5/11 this fish had what look like white spots in it and a fungus growing about its head area.I have other fish in the tank that look ok.I am new to all this and I am worried why has this happened, has it been a bad batch or had I just been unlucky. Can Someone give me some advice because I do not want to lose any more fish.

m8, this reallt needs to be in the emergencies section!

Hi lmailey, welcome to the forum; sorry you've been having so much trouble with your new fish.

How long has your tank been set up and running? Did you cycle it at all? I ask because I suspect your problem is that this is a new tank and isn't cycled; ie; has no good bacteria living in the filter to reduce the poisonous wastes (mostly ammonia) that the fish give off.

Do some water changes (50% daily, with warm, dechlorinated water) and have a read of the articles in our beginner's resource centre, the link to that is in my sig.

Then arm yourself with a test kit (a liquid/test tube one, not the paper strips; they're too inaccurate) and test daily, water changing if you see any reading for ammonia. Once you've had no ammonia for seven days, your tank will be cycled.

What are the 'other' fish btw?

Hope that helps; best of luck!
