I posted earlier about my betta, he was covered in white/grey fuzz and his fins were going white on the ends. I treated the tank about 5 hours ago with fin rot and fungus control, and he seemed to be doing ok. Literally in the past hour, his colour has gone, his eyes are fuzzy, his body is worse. I put an airstone in too, because he is gasping at the top for air, but even on very light bubbles it is 'blowing' him around the tank, like he has no control.

What can I do? I've only had him a week. :(:(:(:(:(

Sorry for your loss. If you had only had him a short while it is very possible he was ill when you got him. You did all you could ...sorry love. :/

:good: I have done that...about 4 or 5 in total..only one is still with me. It is even worse when you get one from a breeder like I did from Joby, then he gets something and died within 2 days...I sat and cried....but we dont learn if I see a really bad one I still buy it!

Sorry to hear of your loss, Sparkles. It's always a major bummer to lose a fish.

Yeah, I was pretty upset, been lucky with fish so far *touch wood* only lost 2 in total, both in the past few weeks, both from said garden centre. GRR.

Thank you, I'm gettng paranoid about my other one now, checking him every 10 minutes or so. :)

For future reference, your fish died of Columnaris. It sounds like he had the nasty, fast-developing form, which normally kills regardless of your efforts. When caught early, lowering the tank temp, increasing aeration, adding a medicinal dose of salt, and treating with Triple Sulfa from AP or Maracyn (I think... if not, its M2) from Mardell in conjuction with feeding medicated foods can heal the fish.

I had a Betta fish die of tail/fin rot and a fungal infection, too. The sad thing is that I did not recognize the signs. I only knew that something was wrong when I went downstairs that morning to feed him, and he would not do anything. :( I still feel horrible for my loss. However, I know my fish is in a better place and he is no longer suffering. :)
