Somehow aquired a 4th tank (for Jackson)
Been running this filter in Tank 1 for a couple of weeks now along side that filter.
The biomedia looked gunky, and sponges discoloured, so hoping it would be kind of cycled.
Hahahahhaah!

ok Day 90 today.....and still no further foward. Not even a W/C will help! I even saw a slight green tinge of Ammonia this morning! :-(

Oh dear!

Have you considered taking some of the media from your other two tanks to put into this one? If you did that you'd probably be there.

now added mature media...and still have 2-5ppm of nitrate after 12h :/

I'd consider doing a water change just to bring the nitrate down if nothing else. I can't believe how long your cycle has been going on!

How are the other tanks doing on ammonia/nitrite?

What's the circulation rate through the filter? Is there a "splash" from the filter that disturbs the surface of the water for more oxygenation of the water? (This seems very odd... there has to be something that is being missed... :/)

T2 has a Aqua Internal 200 and the power bar is spraying along the surface, still only dosing 1.6ml instead of 3.6 as per calculator says for a 70L tank. I've tried waterchanges, the ph is around 8. (buffered recently) GOOGLED ...Filter flow rate of 500L/H

T4 has a Fluval U2 with top outlet bubbling out just under the surface. GOOGLED.... For aquariums upto 45-110ltr/12-30us gallon. Flow rate 400l/h or 155gph (us). 5watts

The mature media donated by Blubble37 mostly went in T2 with a few small pieces in T4.

PLEASE HELP anyone!!

Day 109 in the "invisible fish" cycling tank

You know what, it's processing all the ammonia, and the majority of nitrite in 24 hours, you've clearly got a certain number of bacteria. I don't see why you don't abandon the cycling, and go with a couple of fish in this one too.

What have you got your eye on for this one?

Hi HayzH,

I know you wanted to finish this with a full fishless cycle and I applaud your efforts, but for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to be working for you.

You could go and move the platies over to this tank - all 5 should be fine. Then just watch it for a while. Keep an eye on the ammonia, nitrite, etc. (You know the drill by now. :D) I know this isn't what you wanted to do, but it might be in the best of your cycle. The platies will be fine in that tank. Your first tank will have a minor die back in bacteria, but it will be fine when you want to move the platies back. Use the platies to mature the tank and prepare it for the GBRs.

A second piece to this plan would be, although it sounds kind of strange - you could also move the cardinals over (they will be nice tank mates with the GBRs, eventually) after the tank has shown to be fully cycled for the platies - and move the platies back to the first tank.

Perhaps a better option: Take a sample of media from tank one and move the cardinals over to this tank. Let it prove itself as being fully cycled for a month or so, then add the next fish in your stocking plan for this tank (leaving the GBRs for the end).

i have had my eye on rams for ages...they have some beauty's in the LFS.
Yes it is processing MOST of the Nitrite but it's still HALF doses. I added Blubble's mature media to it too....i just dont know what the problem is? :dunno:
Has anyone else in this area managed to fully cycle a tank???
