Was hoping someone could give me some advice

Im wanting to set up a nice planted tank - the substrate is sand. In the lfs today and was advised to have a layer of aquatic peat, then a layer of mixed sand, gravel and peat, then my sand on top.

I have been looking at lots of peoples set up pics on here and dont seem to see the same thing. How do you plant yours?

The multiple layers are not necessary (though using multiple layers of different stuff can help), sand on its own is fine.
I use sand on its own and my plants are growing fine :)

inert substrate is fine, you just need to dose more fertiliser in th water column.

A nutritous substrate can act as a back up incase you miss a dose, or some plants have preferred methods of uptake, such as crypts prefer nutrient uptake through the roots.

Personally, in my 60l, i had JBL Aquabasis+ capped with playsand
In my 240l, i have JBL Aquabasis+ capped with ADA Aquasoil Malaya

Ahh thats good - thanks for that

My corys like to mess up the gravel as it is - didnt want the sand and peat to get mixed together which is why I was asking

Someone said you can get little pots to plant your plants in - where on earth would sell plant pots that small!!!!
