I've lost a handful of my fish recently and now a golden danio looks terrible. It's fins are loosely held in the water, very spread, it has lil red dots on the skin, it's bloated up and it has a similar look to when a guy goes bald, thin and can see the skin if yu know what I mean it's also @ the top alot gaspin, but does venture down to mid water.

I've started a course of melafix (not diabetes treatment which yu may have seen before the edit lol) as a precaution as I think if anythin it's bacterial?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've done ammonia test and I sware it's between 0 - 0.25, but tap water gives exactly the same result so I dunno what to do bout that, I will get me water tested @ LFS tomoz, shouldda done before really but the fish seemed happy so thought I'd be ok.

Edit: I did a bit of googlin and I think that its likely to be dropsy which is unfortunate :(

I'll do a water change and hope for the best.

I started my melafix course last night. The ill danio is still floatin around slowly this mornin and the other fish look fine so hopefully the course will prevent anymore fish gettin ill now.

Will take some water samples to LFS and see what they say.

Sounds like a bacterial infection to me, do you have a quarantine tank? if not I suggest you set one up (could be a big tub or similar, just needs to be transparent). Try to seperate all the healthy/ill fish, do some heavy maintainance on filter/gravel/water change etc. and see how they get on.

I don't have a quarentine tank, My idea of one is a full setup again, but what does it have to have?

Also if I do get a quarentine tank setup should I continue the course of melafix on both tanks for the next week?

Cheers

Edit:

Been on google again and is it a hospital tank I need rather than quarentine @ this stage?
