Have you ever seen a poor little betta in a filthy discusting cup on a petstore shelf? Ever walked past and saw that some heartless person had thrown 2 bettas in a container together to "see what would happen"? And have you ever taken one of these little guys home? Nursed them back to health, or at least shown them happiness and kindness in their final hours. If you have tell us their stories, and show pictures if you have any.

Yep i have! i walked into my LFS and noticed that they had crown tail bettas, every tank had sold stuck on them, 4 months on i recently visited the lfs and noticed one crown tail left which still had sold stuck to the tank! They said i could have him :good: I knew the the tank was dirty where he was from but the they mamaged to scoop up all th sh**t he had been iving in put it in the bag  well i filtred out the water and placed him in his new home along with mustard (divided of course)

Few pics from when i frst got him!

Both, actually. Pocky and Ronin are Wal Mart rescues. They were the last 2 bettas on the shelf, and had water so filthy, I couldn't tell what colors they were. (I thought that Pocky was yellow, and Ronin was red and blue.) I was going to get just one, and got Pocky, but I felt terrible leaving Ronin all alone, and so somehow he came home with me, too. At the check out line the lady at the register asked if I really wanted to buy these fish, because they didn't look too good. I told her I felt sorry for them and wanted to offer them a chance at life.

Then the other day when I was at Wal Mart again, I noticed an empty cup, and sure enough, someone had dumped two bettas together and they were going at it. There was a person scooping out goldfish for two ladies, and talking to them, but I ran up to them anyway and interrupted and asked if I could borrow a net to seperate the bettas. I am rather shy and usually very polite, so it took alot for me to interrupt like that, but the only reason I did was because it involved the health of two animals. Of course the thought crossed my mind to buy either or both of the bettas, but they didn't seem very hurt, and when put alongside the other bettas, they really didn't seem any different, and stood as much of a chance as the others, so I really couldn't justify buying one when I don't have somewhere set up to put him/them.

Pocky in his ten gallon, currently shared with 3 WCMMs and 1 mystery snail (soon to be upgraded to a 20 gallon!).

Currently, this is Ronin's only 'friend' (also a rescue!)

Sure, no problem! :good: We (the fish and I  ) would be honored!

Strange, looks identical to my cat who is always round the fish tanks!

Shes a bit 'special' in the head!

i have saved tons of bettas in the last few years. i have none now though. and no pictures. this one male, was terribly sick looking, and my sister bought him. he looked better and better but then got like a tumor or ulcar on it's head. i gave her melafix but i wasn't fast enough to cure the little guy

i had another one, in a 3 gallon. he was beutifal for a walmart fish, well, after i medicated him for like 3 weeks...

i eventually saved a little female. then i wanted to have the male and female together so they wouldn't be alone. i knew it was hard to do it without the male bothering her but i did it. i had a big plant with hiding places. i slowly introduced them both and they eventually seemed like they were in love. and if he was in a bad mood it was very easy for her to avoid him. they did so good together. then after a while, the female passed away. then not long after that the male did too. but they both were probably 2-3 years old. so it was natural causes i am guessing.

my local walmart doesn't have many bettas at all and i think they may stop selling bettas AND crabs in cups! so WHOOO!!! :fun:

thats atleast saving 2 bettas and a crab every day, lol. who knows if they even feed there fish there, the ones in cups....

i bought a crab there tyring to rescue him, he looked sick, i am not a crab expert. but he didn't move much and he looked like he was on meth or something. he seemed to love his own 10 gallon. the only ohters in there was some bass minnows, my crawdad baby (about 6 months now i think) and he has lots of shells to hide in and stuff. he liked going on top of the big shell and just standing there looking around the garage. he was like king of the tank. then he died. sad thing was, he died in his favorite spot, on top of that shell :-(

i know it's not about crabs too but i just wanted to share his story. he was a red claw.

i won't start talking about goldfish or fish with open sores i've tried to help. i own an animal rescue organization, so i could go on for a long time. but not in the mood for a novel. :S

Good for you! :good: When I can, I want to foster for a rescue... all my cats and dogs are rescues, and will forever be!

Now that I am almost throughly off-topic...

Here's a picture of a Wal-Mart rescue in his castle, to stay on topic.

You could almost fit your head in there! haha she's cute :)

Thanks! She is actually the only (non-fish) pet I have right now that I actually throughly planned for! All the others more or less found me, and we just had to manage. Shes a piece of work, for sure! :fun:

bloodworms? that betta was lucky to get you out of all the people that could of got him at walmart.

the only time i had bettas was when i didn't know as much about fish, so i bought him pellets...

Yes, I spoil my critters as much as possible, hehe. ^_^ Some days he gets pellets, but he also gets bloodworms at least a couple times a week, and occasinally tropical flakes, though not so much now that I got a couple different kinds of betta food (just different brands). I figure it would be boring to eat the same thing day after day, so I switch around. ^_^ Oh, once in awhile I give him an algae wafer to pick at, though he usually dosen't eat much of it (I take it out once it gets yucky and floating around the tank.)

I can't bring myself to feed live brine shrimp, though. (I'm a buddhist, so sending things to its death is not something I tend to do.) Well, they are spoiled in every other way, I believe!

Have added the first rescue story to my site, let me know what you think of the format and such. Link to my site is in my signature! Thanks :good:

well i've bought fish i've felt sorry for, but i don't consider buying fish really rescuing them as you're still putting money in the sellers pocket so they can buy more fish to abuse.

but i did buy my little Gin from one store because he was so tiny and had only half a tail left, had no idea what tail type he was! but his colour type was like nothing i've ever seen! and completely different to all the other blue VTs they had there. he's silver all over. with a slight copper tinge in certain lights. in fact he's so unusual i'm going to try and breed him in a few months, just getting the gear together and finding him the perfect girl first! turns out he's a super delta as well and a right little piggy! he has a 5 gallon hex to himself these days. his tail is growing back now after a vicious battle with fin rot, it's now healthy!

when he first went into his new hex:

and now: dancing so fast my camera can't keep up!
