Have I Got A Bacterial Bloom?

ok cheers will probably just have the normal light/dark hours then. back to tropicals link in his sig was very helpful too so thanks for that . well the tank has been cleaned to within an inch of its life all decor moved checked under cleaned if needed . only realistic organic waste should be whatever the fish poop and also my kribs are spawning at the moment so some egg cases in a few days.

Didnt know if the lights made any difference or not, just would save you seeing the milky water

just 1 last question . its been suggested elsewhere that the fact ive done a substrate change a few weeks ago could have contributed to a delayed bloom and stirring/moving my sand may not be helping.

but i thought you should move your sand around to prevent buildup of gas in the substrate?

yeah i did say to the missus i may leave them off for a few days cos when it looks like crap i dont wanna see inside it anyway

mark there is no need to stir the sand up. because if hydrogen sulphide does form pockets, as soon as it is disturbed by accident it becomes harmless when it hits oxygen so theres no need

ok cheers i wont bother in future then. well things are much better this morning the tank is almost 100% crystal clear again another day and i rekon it will be sorted. cheers for the help everybody my tank actually looks nice again :good:

I changed from gravel to sand about 3 to 4 weeks ago and have had a nightmare since, nitrite spikes and really cloudy water, something nasty on the bogwood, been doing daily sand vacs and water changes, and all of a sudden this week the the sand looks great and the water is now clear and all the parameters are ok.

Sounds like your is ok now!

I did the same this weekend, water quality much better, I removed alot of plant debris which the syphon had missed or couldn't suck up, then went through with my net to totally clear. My fish arn't bothered in the slightest but at least I have a clearer view now. Glad your's is better too, and also thanks to everyone for the usefull info. :good:
