Hi

I recently bought 3 dwarf gourami's from my LFS 1 powder blue and two flame red. I was told the powder blue was a male and the flame reds females.
Having read more about the dwarf gourami i think the flame reds are actually males. They have a lot of colour and are not silver like most people say females are. The tip of the head is silver but the body is a vivid red and the fins blue. Is it possible to get females with colour or have they been mis-sold. Do i need to worry about having 3 males together?? They seem to be getting on at the moment but have only been in the tank 3 days

Thanks

Stu

Blue with red are almost always males, if you can post pictures I and some others on here will be able to sex them for you, but I would put money on the blue and red being males. The powder blue may or may not be a male. I have 2 powder blues one male and one female.

if the dwarf gouramis have coloured bodies then they are males. Female dwarf gouramis are silver or silver with some very faint bands runing up and down the body.
Dwarf gouramis are normally only brought in as males because females aren't very colourful. If you have two red fish and a blue striped fish you have 3 boys and they should be fine together in a well planted tank.

Not all females are silver though, I have a female powder blue and shes a definate female her and my male bred recently and I have the fry in a seperate tank.

Heres a picture of her and another of my females
