Ok just wondering why you cant use table salt or even sea salt (used in cooking to hatch bbs)? I was running out of aquarium salt and decided to try it and the bbs hatched! Also they have hatched in normal tap water (not left to stand or anything)

I can understand not putting the salt into the actual aquarium but surely if it works why cant we use it for hatching bbs?

Just wondering thats all

Hi there,

There are various thoughts surrounding the use of various grades of salt.

The key thing to bear in mind will be hatch rate and speed, obviously with marine aquarium salt, the water conditions are closer to what they experience in the wild so you would expect the majority of the eggs to hatch within the first 30 hours.

As you move away from these natural conditions, then you would expect the hatch rates and speed to also drop.
