'A single goldfish may be kept in an unfiltered bowl which will require a weekly 30% water change to keep the water fresh. Goldfish need oxygen in the water to breathe and this enters through the surface of the water. A goldfish bowl will only have enough surface area to provide oxygen for one fish. As a general rule you will need 4.5 litres of water for each small goldfish.
A tank with some filtration will enable you to keep the water quality better creating a healthier environment for your fish and allow you to keep several fish in a community.'
