My first & oldest boy passed on today. He was a wal-mart boy so I am just guessing his age, though I estimate 2+ years.

He had a case of finrot that was being treated, that I caught right away, so I am really confused about why this happened. He was being treated with Maracyn 2 in a hospital tank.

He shared a filtered 10 gallon with another male. It is kept very clean, but apparently not clean enough? The other male appears to be fine.

Am I able to put another boy in Harold's spot? Do you think old age helped contribute to why he couldn't beat the finrot? I don't think it was more than finrot, but if it was, his partner should be showing visible signs of being sick himself right?

Sorry for rambling, I just want to be cautious.

To be on the safe side i would suggest a good thorough cleaning of the entire tank, then watching the other male for signs of fin rot. Harold's death was probally promoted by his age, i'm terribly sorry to hear of this. If you do put another male in his place do the cleaning bit to prevent the spread.

R.I.P. little Harold :-(

Thanks, I figured I would have to do that. Such a pain but better than other boys getting sick.

I feel you, but it's always for the better. No matter how much water you bath yourself in from changing those darn tanks.

So sorry to hear this. :rip: Harold. Yeah, clean out the tank: it's better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry for your loss :rip: Harold

As others have said, best to completely strip down the tank and clean it well.
