I have been cycling my tank for my sister for Christmas for several weeks now. There is almost no ammonia, and i am hoping nitrite will soon drop. I know i should just wait until the tank is completely cycled but she would really like to get the fish for Christmas, so i was planning on getting some on Christmas eve.

I am currently looking at the first schooling fish that i would like to add. So Far its between:
8 Glowlight tetra's
6 Harlequin Rasboras
6 Cherry Barbs

I would do water changes today tomorrow and thursday, to get nitrite levels below .25, and then would continue to do so to keep them below that. I would also only get 3 to start with.

What do you think would be the best school of fish, and i am also open to hear other suggestions.

Once the school is settled i would also like to add a couple platies.

Thanks

if the tanks not fully cycled then i wouldnt start adding any fish just yet, dont rush it  you will end up loosing the fish or having to do big daily water changes until the filter can cope.... your much better off completing the cycle and knowing your water is safe for fish. tetras are quite sensitive and i would wait a few months before adding any of these, also if i remember right cherry barbs need cooler water so tank mates will have to be really thought about! also water changes are not required if doing a fishless cycle :good:

I agree with Mattlee. You for sure dont want to rush into adding fish cause you'll end up losing them. To answer your question tho, once the tank gets through the cycling process I would go with the Rasboras, but thats just me  good luck :good:

okay i've decided to wait, but when i do get fish i think i might now like bloodfin tetras. Anyone know anything about them?
