Harlequin Rasbora

today a visit at pets at home I brought 8 nice looking Harlequin Rasboras the last time l kept this species was in a community take more than 40 years ago i’m hoping to get them in good condition. to See if I can breed them.

I tried and tried to breed that fish, when I lived with moderately hard water. Then we moved to a place that had soft water, and my daughter's 11 year old friend wanted tank advice. I helped her set up, and not long after she asked me if I wanted some of her baby harlequins...

I love Rasbora Het’s ! I think they’re prettier than many Tetra’s .

in this part of the UK the water is very hard the pH of 7.5+ so need to get the pH down before i have any chance of getting them to breed i’ve never tried breeding Rasbora so we’ll be a challenge

For me, it wasn't anything to do with pH. It was the mineral content of the water either over hardening the eggshell, or interfering with the sperm. They'd lay eggs, but they couldn't develop.

They loved spawning on the underside of crypt leaves, and their spawning colours were fantastic. But it ended there until I tried with low mineral content water.
