my tank has gone from those big beautiful swords in my sig to pretty much no plants at all at the moment. nothing seems to be taking, and broad leafed plants are either melting or getting decimated by my plecs (i cant work out which), which obviously didnt happen before. anyways, ive thrown about 20 quids worth of plants out in the last 2 weeks trying to get my tank towards how it looks in my sig again, but all thats survived so far is a crypt.

i dont know whether this is coincidence or what, but crypt leaves arent big enough for my plecs to lay on, sword ones are. so i think my next tactic will have to be to forget about swords and other broadleaved plants, and go for something my plecs cant rasp on, hopefully. well its better than any other theory ive got

low tech, no added plant food or special substrate. just sand, and some light. i will ge a couple more crypts but i want something a bit taller along the back again. also is there anything like anubias that will grown on wood, but again is slim leafed ? the last anubias i had got taken down to a stump

finally, whats the easiest moss to grow ? its going in a corner where theres not as much light as the rest of the tank, so something that does well in low light would be perfect. its going on this bit of wood, which i think you'll agree would look mint covered in a moss carpet. i tried growing moss on the eggcrate its sitting on, but it went brown almost instantly. :

really, no suggestions for any of my questions ??

i guess i'll have to wing it then, im also looking for some floating stuff i think, my battered and bruised sword is currently floating at one end of the tank, and i noticed last night that i actually quite like it being there, just need something thats supposed to be there.

Couldn't guarantee it, but you might want to feed the plants.

Java moss is a good simple moss
Java fern "Narrow" - or "Needle" or "Mini" might be a replacement for your anubias. :good:

How about some narrow or needle leaf Java fern as an alternative to the Anubias, I think most mosses would do ok but Java moss seems to be the easiest of the bunch.

EDIT: Looks like I was beaten to it whilst writing my reply.

not a huge fan of normal java ferns, will check out the other ones. i dont want to start feeding because nothing has changed since that sig pic was taken other than my filter and a few more fish. i clearly dont need to feed them, as i proved it can be done, but for some reason now nothing takes. those swords in my sig went ballsitic, i had to trim them every other week as they blocked out so much light.

OK :good:

I was gonna suggest not feeding your fish and see how they get on, but this is the internet so I'd better not

If you don't like the Java fern you could try African water fern (Bolbitis Heudelotii) although I think it's demands are slightly higher than Java fern.
