hi all. I have a question regarding the use of hardwood roots in the aquarium for plecos to munch on. I use hardwood for various beetle breeding purposes already and was wondering if in addition to roots, can chunks of hardwood logs and bark be usedd in the aquarium safely?

are there any issues in terms of bouyancy? I dont have a tank set up at the moment and cant test to see if Emory oak will sink.

thanks for any info yall can provide!

Are we talking seasoned or unseasoned timber?

Unseasoned wood and especially oak is far too tannic to put in a tank but well weathered wood from non toxic species of tree should be fine.

A season weighted down in a large bucket of water would serve to both leach the tannins and help to waterlog the wood.

Never put green wood in a fishtank.
