Is the hardness of water significant?
It's the only water parameter I've not checked. I will be getting fish this weekend after a super long cycle and I don't want any mishaps at the finishing line.

It is quite important; moreso than pH, in most people's opinion, but it doesn't have to be that accurate a reading; you'd know if your water was hard, because your kettle/showerhead would get a lot of limescale.

Hmm no limesscale in kettle or shower head. Is that good?

Well, that means your water isn't very hard; so as long as you avoid anything that's wild caught South American , you should be ok with most tropicals :)
