does anybody have any tips on which fish do better in hard water??? the water in my area is really hard but i'd like to keep and breed something a little special... most of the fish i have currently are doing fine in my water but need softer water to breed....and after researching a bit i think i've decided for now that its not all the simple to change the water chemistry and keep it stable.... so perhaps the best thing is to do is look into fish that will naturally do well in my water :)

ooohhh...

forgive my ignorance.... they are never really something i've looked into before....i guess typically i started with the 'standard' community tank and are now beginning to explore now i'm a bit more experienced :*)

i'm guessing that they are semi-aggressive?? are there any small ones you would suggest?? would they have to be species only tanks or could they be mixed with other 'suitable' fish??

Thanks :D

Nearly all African cichlids fall under at least "Semi-aggressive" with many being under aggressive or highly aggressive. The smallest ones though can easily fit in a 10 gallon tank. Those are shell dwellers from Lake Tang (short for a word I won't even attempt to spell right). The average cichlid you'll find in stores though needs more like a 30-50 gallon or larger tank.
