Can anyone recommend a small schooling fish to replace the Tetra, that like hard water and a group of bottom dwellers to replace the Cory that like hard water. What are some of my options?

You have many options. The big question is what's locally available.

Look up fish you like the looks of and trace their origins - where do they live? If it's North or Central America - hard water. Anywhere coastal is a good possibility.

Depends on the tank size - can you let us know? If its 30-40 gallons or more Rainbowfish and Synodontis would be a good choice. Smaller Rainbows like Forktails, Dwarf Neon, Kamaka, Neon Laser, Pygmaea and the Synos should be the black and white species like Polli, Lucipinnis, Petricola or Multipunctatus. If its at the nano end of things 10-20 gallons look at Galaxy Rasbora and Emerald Rasboras for the upper levels and the lower levels check out Rosy Loaches or Inle Loaches. Or at the bigger end of those, around 20g, check out Rummy Nose Rasboras.

In either set up some livebearers like Endlers, Guppies, Platies or Swordtails would add a pop of colour as a feature fish. In bigger tanks 40 gallon+ you could also check out Central American Cichlids but these are not compatible with some of the fish I mention below as they are too small to go with Cichlids.

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).
