For any Queen fans out there Freddie Mercury would have been 60 yesterday on the 5th September. So if there's anyone else out there who thinks he was fab, this is the place to wish him Happy Birthday!

They had some great songs. I have always liked their music. I can still see Wayne and Garth in the car jamming to Bohemian Rhapsody or We are the Champions in Revenge of the Nerds. And according to the Queen website, he was born in 1946 which would have made him 61 on the 5th.

Oddly enough, one of their songs caused quite a stir at one of the local radio stations here back in 2002 when the snipers were on a rampage in and around Washington, DC. For those that may not be from the states, 10 people were killed (6 more wounded) over a month and a half by a driver and a sniper who were shooting through a hole in the trunk of their car. No one ever saw where the shot came from (seemed to always be just one shot) because it was so quick and as soon as the shot was fired, the car drove away.

Anyway, on one particular morning, the news was on this station that another person had been shot that morning. Unfortunately, the first song in the queue after the news was Queen's Another One Bites the Dust. It only played for about 30 seconds before someone realized it and took it off the air. There was a huge uproar from people calling in to complain that it was cruel, sick and heartless. The station said that play lists were prgramed into the computer well in advance and that is was purely coincidental that song happened to come up at that time.

I had the chance to see them in concert and decided not to bother :X I don't have many regrets in life, but that's one.

Obviously he had a great voice and they were/are great musicians and even though he'd recorded with opera singers it still didn't hit home how powerful his voice was until the tribute concert when nobody could deliver anything like the vocals he had. The one possible exception being George Michael

They replayed the Live in Rio and Live at Wembley concerts on the music channels the other night too B) Brilliant, never tire of seeing a master at work.

Sad loss to the musical world, but what a legacy to leave behind :good: I might go and put the greatest hits CD in the car :shifty:

Queen were a truly great band, some fantastic songs, especially their earlier stuff. Never saw them in concert but did see Queen + Paul Rogers at Hyde Park a couple of years ago. Not as good as Freddie but was definitely worth the golden circle ticket as I got to see Brian and Roger up close and personal!
