As some of you know I have a breeder pair of golden severums. They have repeatedly eaten their eggs well over 10-times. They laid a new batch today, and I caught them before they ate all of the eggs. I "rescued" the eggs (and the rock that they were laid on) and put them into my "hatching tank." I felt bad about taking the eggs away from their parents, but I wanted to give them a chance. The female attempted to bite me several times, but it was obvious that they had already begun snacking on the eggs, so I went ahead and proceeded. Is there anything special that I should do? I have them in a small 5.5 gallon tank (they will be transferred to a larger tank if they hatch) with a cycled sponge filter and a submersible heater. The only "decor" in the tank is the rock that the eggs are attached to. What do I need to know about raising them by hand? Thanks ahead!

I would do similar to what you would do for angelfish. An air stone near the eggs to circulate the water, proper temperature and methelyne blue in the water. If any eggs turn white they are fungused and should be removed. (Angle eggs turn white if fungused, I'm guessing Severum eggs do the same)

The most important thing is water circulation. If the water is stagnant around the eggs, the young eggs will sufficate. Do a good amount of water changes to help stem disease as well
