If your tank is increasingly fuller of plants, have you considered increasing the flow/ferts/co2?
A sudden change signals that maybe your not providing enough ferts and co2 to the plants and are producing ammonia for the algae to feed off.

sounds like too much phosphate in your water

i got back from holiday and found a surge in hair algae

ive orders phoso-zorb and flourish excel

i intend to overdose with flourish, i did this once before and it worked, turned all the hair algae red and it dropped off

and the phoso-zorb will prevent anymore growning

hair algae is the single biggest nuisense in a fishtank!

you say Phosphate causes algae, yet you overdosed flourish to kill it!
That should be telling you something... or do you mean excel when you said flourish

Either way PO4 doesnt cause algae, hair algae is a sign of poor CO2, poor flow and undetetcable amonia spikes.
thanks

What he said. :D
Believing that excess nutrients like nitrates, phosphates or iron cause algae is like believing the world is still flat. We now understand they don't cause algae and countless amounts of tanks that dose Estimative Index have proved this. Not just by "scientists" but by planted tank hobbyists that can put this type of dosing method into practice at home. The results speak for themselves.
