Hair algae has got into the skeleton of my acans and I'm loosing it slowly. Theres also some cool stuff - like a multicoloured leaf - I assume some type of macro algae. Anyway the algae is killing the acan. Any idea how to rid on that piece. I normally like hair algae on my rock but not happy now! All levels are fine phosphates are 0.

And nitrates and nitrites also 0

only thing you can do is remove it manually with some tweezers. if youve got it bad, buy a sea hare for a bit and take it back when your clear

Will the acan survive a sea hare over it? Aren't sea hare's massive!! It's pretty bad!

PS thanks very much for the reply Ben!

If you don't want any algae you could try dosing vit C.

Did I read correctly - you can also vodka dose?

indeed as its adding a carbon source to feed a certain kind of bacteria. i believe nemo Vit C doses so ask her :)

Hi lewiss, if you've got a considerable amount of GHA then your phos would read Zero as it locks it in. Your basically wasting your time testing for phos. Same goes for nitrates.

Like Ben says best way is to manually remove it, reduce feeding and lighting period and run alot of phos remover.

That's what I did when I had ahem, a SMALL amount of it and it was gone in no time. I find good weekly wc help massively also.

Yeh I was hoping for a miracle cure past the basics, like something that eats it or something.

I personally don't like the idea of having a seahare!

Yes I know they are Like lawnmowers and I had one meself but not before I realised that the poor things get transported from tank to tank and don't get any chance to settle down in an environment.

No wonder mine only survived for 2 weeks. In fact if you look in my journel at the beginning there is a pic of my sea hare with the caption 'my sea hare posing' when in fact it was dead when I took the shot! (I just never owned up To it until now!)

God, he stunk!
