Hi, when I received the plants for my tank, one of them was covered with hair algae. This algae has been slowly vanishing over the last few days. Now I know this isn't a bad thing, no one likes algae on their plants...

The thing is, I used to have an amano shrimp, but I've seen no trace of it for absolutely ages and I assumed it had died and been eaten by my fish. I was wondering if any of my other fish eat hair algae or if my shrimp could still be alive lurking somewhere in the tank (I hope so!). Could there be a reason other than my shrimp for the algae disappearing?

the rainbow shark might eat some green algae, but limited to the amount of other food he can get..

Other than that I cant see any other fish in your tank that will eat the hair algae.

I did suspect my rainbow shark might eat some of it, but there was quite a lot of it to start with and it's nearly all gone now, perhaps my shrimpy has come back from the dead

Its probably the live plants leaching all the nutrients that the algea needs to survive. I had alot of algea and then I got some live plants and it went away because the plants were combating the algea.
