hi all i was just wondering, rather than buying a new filter, what peoples opinions on this filter are? it came with the tank as brand new along with everything else, its very quiet although it misses one side of the tank where muck accumalates

Fantastic filters these, I run them on low maintainance tanks, quite a powerful motor for their size, and very quite, plus the driectional head and easy supply of spares is great for the price.

I personally didn't like them. But maybe I'm just biased to in-tank filters because I think they're very obtrusive.

I may also be biased because I used it in a too small tank for a too small turtle.

i got it with the brand new set up on a 60 litre tank, but the end the pump is is becoming very mucky on the substrate, maybe i have the pump in the wrong place?
i have it on the width end rather than on the back where it is on the picture on the box, maybe it would be better if i moved it?

Hmmm yes, I've got two, just the smaller 5 and 10 versions they do the job ok but could be better as they don't hold alot of filter media inside the compartments are too small they are also as others said obtrusive and ugly! though yes they are very quiet as filters go, you could try moving the filter to the other side of the glass but I think there my be another reason why muck is accumulating there, possibly substrate sloping towards pump? overfeeding? overstocked tank leading to extra waste that filter is finding harder to remove, or pump not working as it should, make sure media hasn't clogged with waste and pump is sending out a strong jet of water, also siphon the muck up manually.

I also had one of these filters and lost a few fish that got stuck between the filter and the glass.If any of your fish are under 4cm i would change it for an aquaball 60.My water is now crystal clear and my Corys are now laying eggs which is a sign of a healthy tank according to a few more experienced people than me.They never laid when the Stingray was in.
