Whilst out yesterday, i went into a small fish shop in a local garden centre, i really want to name and shame, but i wont

In a small 2 foot tank!!!!!!!, were two of the most stunning oscars i have ever seen, about 10" ans 9", a conversation with a member of staff, who genuinely seemed to care but needed the job revieled that the oscars had been brought in because the owner could not cope with the amount of fry, and that this was the only tank they could put them in.

I pointed out that the 4' tank they had 6 little parrots would be more suitable, but the manager (who looked about 6, and did not give a t0ss) said that the o's could die in there for all he cared.

I'm not a violent guy but a could have floored him there and then, he then said i could have them for £100 if i wanted them.

£100!!!!, i asked him how he worked out the price, "proven pair" he said i asked him if he'd seen them spawn, or could even confirm that they were m/f, "of course they are m/f" he said, obvoiusly with his years of experience he was expert in sexing oscars.

i told his that basically i would take the oscars off him, for a REASONABLE PRICE, so £10 later i was on my way home

Anyway, here i am the owner of arthur and martha, a pair of red o's (venting them confirms it) they are in a rio 300 at the moment all on there own and seem to be enjoying stretchng their fins.

Brave or stupid, time will tell but they are better off with me than in a 2' tank and left to die.

The kids love 'em and who knows then may even get to see thm raise some fry!!

heres to rescue fish :good:

Grrr some people are complete idiots.

Well done for saving them, and what a lovely pair of Oscars they are! :good:

Simply stunning! Thanks for giving them a great home! Rescues make the best pets :) Half of the creatures (not fish) are rescues!

wow those are beauties mate.....and :good: for standing up to the little sh*+......and a bargain at £10....
why do fish shops do that...you see a huge tank with a few small fish and a small tank cramped with big fish...saw that at a new lfs other day a 3ft tank which must have had about 50 malawi and oscars  in togther then next to it a nice tall and wide 6ft tank with six pearl gouramis......so i hunted down the yts girl and she said i agree with you told manager but hes a pri  ....so i askedto speak with him but heard him say "iam fed up with people telling me how to run my fish shop....what a plonker....listen and do something...

 Gotta love oscars!

Good on you for saving them! Sounds like a really crap shop.. reminds me of the mentality of my local pets@home

just to let you all know that these guys are now doing great, and are cleaning a big piece of slate as i type.

But they are kicking up a lot of small particles are being held in the water column and pushed into one corner, the externals are not picking it all up and i cannot move the intake pipes

I'm in desperate need of a big internal filter or big power head, i've posted in the buy sell swap section but is anyone has one knocking about i'm willing to either pay or swap, i've got loads of small filters and other fishkeeping bits and pieces

please let me know if you've got one knocking about that you would like to sell/swap

thanks

neil :good:

Have you tried ebay? You'll find the same prices there as you would if someone's selling here...

that is a good story, outstanding looking fish, I hope that they do breed for ya will make a good ending to a good story.
