Hi Folks :)

Ive had a bit of a break from Betta and Fish Keeping! But...i fell in love with a couple of fella's so started again. I bought recently a CT (Crown Tail) who i named Houdini as he escaped through the side of his tank and a gorgeous burnt orange VT (Veil Tail) I named Peekaboo as he likes to get stuck in his filter. I change their water weekly and they seem perfectly happy but ive noticed Houdini my CT has got lil spots over him and he seems to be hiding more and lore lethargic. He is still eating but im not sure what it is. Whether is a gas bubble disease or something more serious. Peekaboo doesnt seem to showing any signs of the spots and they share the same tank but are seperated by glass. If anything Peekaboo is more active than ever. They are both making bubble nests aswell. Ive had these boys for about a month now. Ive tried to take a photo of Houdinis spots but they wont turn out in photos. Id like to be able to treat what ever it is. I have been doing weekly water changes which involved rinsing the gravel but not washing out the filter sponges. Ive got an air stone in Houdinis side of the tank as his side does not have a filtration outlet to put water back into the tank if that makes sense.

Any ideas on what the spots could be? They arent bright white but i can see them and they are on his body? Ive some Ich treatment in the cupboard if it is that but im not sure..

Their tank is set to 26degrees Celcius and all the water levels are fine aswell. The PH is neutral to. I test for ammonia etc whenever i change their water.

My two boys..

From those photos, I can't see any spots.. on the other hand, having the males being able to always see each other is quite stressful for them, so that could be the cause of the spots (assuming they are not ich), or could have even triggered ich. I would advise you to get a solid divider which you can leave in place for most of the time.

Ive had a fish with Ich before years ago and it doesnt look like Ich. He hasnt lost any weight but the spots have definantly progressed. I thought I might of changed to much water with the last water change...would that affect him with spots? The glass divider is unfortunantly siliconed in place so i could try putting a silk plant in their big enough to give him some barrier. He seems to like to come out more when I turn the light off. Example..i just turned the light off them and he came out from under his plant straight away.

I did try to photograph his spots but they arent bright enough to turn out on camera. I can try my SLR tmw which may pick more up.

That would probably help, or maybe get a plastic sheet which you could place along the divider? At any rate, I think anything at all would help here.

You are making me think more and more that the spots are just a reaction to stressful (another male easily visible) conditions..

Rather than putting in some plastic or something, maybe put in some of the fake plants with the suckers on them?
Although not real, I would personally prefer that to the plastic, so just a suggestion :good:

It may be your fish is stressing out and suffering depression and changing scenery is good but if that does not work it may be safer to remove the healthy male and place a female in there instead if that is possible. And I am a big believer in using salt (pure sea salt) to help as a pick me up so he can recover quickly.

Those photos kinda look like missing scales.. is any of their decor sharp of can he be catching himself on any of it/becoming trapped?

Not apart from the plant but its plastic. He does like to sleep under it, in it and on it. I thought maybe missing scales but it does seem to be progressing over him. The last Betta i had with Ich got so ill but i managed to save him. Its the fact the spots took over his body over night that got me worried with this Betta. I have put a plastic lid in to seperate them vision wise and he seems to be slightly more active. Ive also turned the light off. Peekaboo doesnt like not being able to see him though for some reason. I tested the water and the ph is neutral and there is no sign of any ammonia, nitrite or nitrate. He has been laying on the bottom a lot though. I put in a dose for Ich. ive not seen him flicking or scratching against the gravel and he is still eating. Apart from the spots he looks...normal...

On the off chance you want to try some voodoo, do you have an Indian almond leaf (IAL) you could add?

Judging by your photo he looks like he has a fungal disease. He needs to be isolated and treated.
