Since I changed my tank over from gravel to sand I figuered that I need to add some more plants to deal with possible ammonia since I lost most of my anacharis and only have a few sword plants and mostly ferns so I went out shopping today. Refilled all 4 of my 5 gallon RO jugs and then stopped in at the LFS which had finally gotten in some hornwort and moneywort so I picked up some, They have hardly had any plants for awhile. They told me that some of the plants I ordered will be in tomorrow, The supply chain is starting to heal up. I then went to the new Meijer store to check out the fish. They have a sale on many of their fish. Buy 10 fish for 10 USD Wow! and then they throw in another one if you buy 10 of the same fish so I bought 11 neon tetras, Around here neon tetra goes for 2.99USD each. So I now have some more neon tetras for my tetra tank. Sadley they did not have any cory for sale.

I am thinking of going back again and buying some more or maybe a different type of tetra. I had to re-read the sales notice -didn't believe it at 1st. They have a nice pet department and lots of aquarium items. I wish they had ember tetras.
you could ask if they would order them in for you:)

I am thinking of buying another 11 but I do not want to overstock my 55 gallon tetra tank :dunno: . I now have around 40 tetras. I like to give my fish lots of room. They had several other soft water fish and tetras in the same sale. Well at least I have a couple of days to think about it.

I have seen fish on sale before but not this cheap anywhere and certainly not neon tetra. They are almost never on sale because they are so popular. Petco had a sale last year in October where you bought 5 for 5 USD but neon tetras were not included. I bought ember and red eye tetras but they had only a few other fish on sale. Cardinal and glow light tetra are the same way, almost never on sale. Only time I saw petco put them on sale was when they had a buy 3 get one free on tetras but that did not last long due to C-19 related shortages of fish.

I would get more neons if they had a sale like that. The cheapest I’ve ever seen them was $2.

I was seriously thinking of that but I was also looking at cherry barbs that were on sale. I do not know how well they would get along with my tetras.

Here is what the SF profile said on them:

“Generally very peaceful making it an ideal resident of the well-researched community aquarium.

As it places no special demands in terms of water chemistry it can be combined with many of the most popular fish in the hobby including other small cyprinids as well as tetras, livebearers, rainbowfishes, anabantoids, catfishes, and loaches.

It is a schooling species by nature, and at least 6-10 specimens should be purchased.

Maintaining it in such numbers will not only make the fish less skittish but result in a more effective, natural looking display, and males will develop better colours in the presence of conspecific rivals.“

I would guess so. Although, they do act “aggressively” towards the females, as they are always in mating mood.

Thanks @PheonixKingZ for the information. With all the fish they have on sale I wish I had an empty tank. Thinking of changing my 30 gallon fry/shrimp tank over to soft water but that may end up being to much hard work with more RO water.

I have cherry barbs. I really like them. They were kind of aggressive at first, especially towards each other, but once they settled down in their tank they became very peaceful. They don't bother my rasboras or my honey gourami at all.
