As you may know, I have four Rotkeil babies that I got from Star4 a few weeks ago. Because they were so small, I decided to put them in my 50g first to beef up a little, and of course recover from their journey.

We bought a JD and two more Geophagus Tapajos yesterday. The Tapajos are bigger than our current guy, so can go straight in the 50g.

My 'Green' Severum is a b%6ch, for some reason she completely went for the babies and new fish we put in. Basically she was going for everyone, even the Nic who normally chases her a bit, was staying out of her way. The Nic was also chasing everyone a bit, obviously not Boris, and not Mister Orange.

So, for now my Green has gone in my 50g while we work out what to do with her. We had just put the tank back together when the Nic started being a t£at and chasing everyone. Hers isn't as bad as the Green though, who was actively hunting the other fish down. Normally the Nic is so busy digging, she doesn't bother chasing, but she has been chasing the newbies.

The Green looks huge in the 50g  it's amazing how quickly she has grown in the big tank. Obviously I am aware she cannot stay there long term. But we may give her another chance at the weekend and try and reintroduce her to the big tank. If she plays up again, she's off.

Mister Orange and Boris have been fab with the newbies.

The Rotties are loving the new tank otherwise, exploring about. I am expecting them to put on a good growth spurt now, though they have definitely grown since I've had them. The size difference of them next to Mister O is hilarious, but he is such a laid back fish he isn't bothered.

The JD was a fish I've always liked, but my OH wanted one, so we agreed we'd give him a try. There was two JD's in a tank with a GT with ripped up fins, but it was obvious it was the other JD that did it. He was basically black and pretty nasty looking. We went for the guy at the front who had coloured fins but was a bit more washed out. He has coloured up a lot since being in the tank and loving the space. He's being chased by the Nic a bit. Will keep an eye on him but he seems a good chap so far.

The Geos stick together like glue and are quite jumpy. Boris spooks them  but they are getting more confident.

My Ornate Bichir that we bought a week or so ago has grown already and is catching up with the Del  He has SUCH an appetite, and so outgoing. He's a fantastic fish.

I got some Panda and Pygmy Corydoras from Kizno yesterday, which have gone in my 50g and my Betta tank. So far so good. The Pandas in particular are great little guys, very active.

Will get some pics soon :)

Fantastic news. Shame they arent getting on. Fish can be so funny at times, fine one minute then the next its war. Well i hope they get on the next time you try them. Ofcourse i'm looking forward to the obligatory pics! :good:

Wow, lots of changes.

I'd be very hopeful that your green sev will be a "new" fish when she goes back into the big tank. I have had sevs in identical circumstances be transformed by a couple of weeks "time out" in another tank. I would wait until the new fish are truly settled in before trying to re-introduce her though.

How big is the JD ? Do you know the sex ?

Thanks both :) I am hopeful that the 'time out' treatment will work. She is very much her normal, docile self in the 50g.

The JD is about 3.5" I think, quite a good size to go straight in.

Not sure on the sex, how can you sex them? Maybe he/she is too small to sex though?

3.5" is fine to sex them. The dorsal fin is your best bet. Although both have a pointed tip , the males will be elongated toward the caudal fin, often ending level with the tip of the caudal. The females dorsal will be more of a triangle ending before the end of the caudal. Females will tend to show alot more brown ribbing, somewhat like a zebra is the easiest way to describe it. A way i like to use, although i doubt it would ever be confirmed as a good way of sexing JD's is to look at the mouth. I've found males have quite a "stocky" and big mouth, whereas females tend to have more of a "dainty" or "quaint" mouth. Femine looking i suppose you could say. Its by no means a recognised way of sexing them, but i find it to be quite accurate. I would say the dorsal fins is your easiest way :)

A picture would help ;) Lol

Great to hear the rotties have made the move, I am sure they'll be fine. They have some front from what I've seen, spooking my port acara numerous times who was a bit of a bully before now with the Geo's.

Would like to see the new JD :)
