Okay, after two months of watching bubbles in the water, the tank is finally cycled!! We now have a stocked tank with shiny, young, swimming thingies. I created a 720p video with calming music and put it on Youtube. Here is the link if you want to see the tank in action:
Gvilleguy's Aquarium
If you are on Youtube and take the 720p option and then the popout button, you can see it in a pretty big screen.
My kids helped design and stock this tank, so we went with colorful and lots of action: Zebra Danios, Glofish Danios, and Male Guppies. The first few days there has been no nipping, but lots of chasing, which makes the tank fun to watch.
The only hiccup so far is confusion on the part of the guppies. We have two lightly colored male guppies with black spots/stripes, and the black guppy and the black/orange guppy have been treating them like females. The first few days they have chased the yellows around just like a mating dance. My daughter and I are constantly telling them "Dudes...those are dudes. Leave them alone!".
